Senior citizens held meeting

January 26, 2022

On Jan. 20, president Gerry Cook called the meeting to order. The 15 members in attendance said the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Since the first meeting of the month was cancelled due to the weather, this meeting was our business meeting. The secretary read the minutes from the last meeting and the treasurer gave the treasurer’s report. Ruby Hering, the past treasurer, thanked everyone for honoring her with the cake that was served in her honor. Today our new treasurer, Toni Janus, was welcomed and took over.

There was a sympathy card request for Carolyn Strausen. Bernadette Banovz and Doris Thomas were the January birthday girls, and Happy Birthday was sung. They also received a free bingo card for their birthday. Doris turned 95 this year and was honored by her family with a big family party for her where relatives from other states flew in to celebrate with her. It was announced that St. Paul Church of Christ will be getting their new self-opening door installed in about five weeks. But due to the winter weather it may be about seven weeks. It will really make getting in and out of the building easier for people with walkers and with difficulty walking. For the next meeting anyone wearing the color red will receive a free bingo card for Valentine’s Day.

The attendance prizes were won by Del Hosto and Judy Hampton. Pot of Silver winners were Bernadette Banovz and Bev Williams. Donated prizes were won by Doris Thomas, Ruby Hering, Linda Pike, Del Hosto, Shirley Copeland, Bev Williams and Toni Janus. The meeting was adjourned and all enjoyed playing bingo.

The next meeting will be Feb. 3 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Staunton, located at 225 S. Laurel St., starting at 1 p.m. All seniors in the area are welcome to join in on the fun.

Secretary, Judy Hampton
