With a strong cold north wind and temps in the low 40s, the 53rd Turkey Bowl started. The game moved to Gillespie in 2001 from Benld.

The Sawyerville Spartans beat the Wilsonville Whizz Kidds by a score of 7-6. It was the lowest scoring game since 2017 (a 6-3 Spartan victory).

The only TD happened in the 1st quarter when Cort Hellman picked off a pass from Tyler Grandidier and rumbled 47 yards to the south end zone. Zack Ruyle added the extra point for a 7-0 Spartan lead.

In the 2nd quarter, Bryce McKenny picked off a Quinn Hellman pass, setting up a Trey Katich field goal. Kicking into the wind from 24 yards out, Katich split the uprights for 3 Whizz Kids points.

In the 3rd quarter, for the Whizz Kidds, a Tyler-to-Kevin Fuller pass worked good setting up an 18-yard field goal from Trey Katich.

Spartans 7 - Whizz Kidds 6.

4th Quarter: Quinn running and passing to Braeden Wells killed a 9-minute drive into the north wind for the Spartans.

With the Whizz Kidds in possession, Trey Wargo for the Spartans held the Whizz Kidds out of the end zone.
