Melissa S. Medders, 53, of Gillespie, Ill., died at Community Hospital of Staunton on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021. She was born Aug. 13, 1968, in Litchfield.

She was a graduate of Gillespie High School, St. John's School of Nursing in Springfield and SIUE where she received a bachelors in nursing. She was a registered nurse in the home health industry. Melissa loved her job, patients, football, Christmas and animals. Her son meant the world to her.

She is survived by her parents, Willard and Carole Scheller of Eagarville; son, Blake (fiancée, Mikayla Fritz) Medders of Benld; sister, Kelly Favre of Benld; nieces and nephews; several aunts, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. Melissa was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Ayers; nephew, Charles Schuerman; and uncle, Dick Scheller.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie with those attending asked to wear black and gold Steelers attire.
