Elbon Shrine Club to finish the 2021 year strong

November 10, 2021

Elbon Shrine Club has had a good year despite a few events being cancelled and not being able to do as much. They are looking to finish with a couple of fundraisers to finish the year strong. This Saturday, Nov. 13, they will have a pork steak dinner that comes with pork steak, baked beans, cole slaw, bread and a drink for $10 or a pork steak sandwich for $7. On Dec. 4 the club will have their 2nd spaghetti dinner on a Saturday night, serving from 3 to 7 p.m. This will include spaghetti, salad and a dessert for $10. Both events will be a dine-in or carry-out dinner with water or tea being offered if you dine in.

As most organizations, they are finding that lack of membership and participation by the members they do have is their biggest obstacle. They bypassed the annual Ainad Shrine Southern Illinois paper drive this year and have had buckets out at Bill's IGA, NAPA, Green Mountain Grills, and Mr. T's. They also had Mike Kuhn at Casey’s for one day and he collected over $300. All money collected from the paper drive goes directly to the hospital. We also make a donation at the end of each year from the money collected in the buckets from all the events throughout the year.

Meetings are the first Wednesday of every month and start at 7 p.m. Any Mason or Shriner is invited to attend the meetings. Anyone that would like to address the Shrine Club is welcome as well; they just ask that you show up a few minutes before the meeting so they are prepared. The club rents out the building for $100 per day for family or organization events. Check their Facebook page for details and contact information.

They thank the community for its continued support and hope to see people out and about as they close out the year.
