On Wednesday, May 11, Community Hospital of Staunton honored Bernice Henke with the ground breaking of the Bernice Henke patio. The new patio will be a relaxing place for employees and visitors to enjoy a break. Bernice's entire nursing career was at Community Hospital of Staunton. She was the director of nursing and retired in 2000. She continued to serve CHS as the secretary of the board of trustees from November 2002 to April 2022. The Staunton Sportsman Club will sponsor their 2022 Kids Fishing Derby on Sunday, May 22. The fishing derby is open to all kids age pre-K through 8th grade. Illinois State Police, District 18, responded to a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Wednesday, May 11. The crash took place on Illinois Route 108 at East 2nd Road in Montgomery County at 5:40 p.m. Ronald C. Schaaff, age 49, from Carlinville was operating a 2008 red Yamaha motorcycle and died at the scene. William E. Myatt, 81, of Maryville, Ill., died at Elmwood Nursing and Rehab in Maryville on Monday, May 9, 2022. He was born Sept. 13, 1940, in Bunker Hill to James Lee and Alta Marie (Wooldridge) Myatt. He married Shirley May Spinner, and she survives. Jean Kay Doty, 81, died at her home in Mt. Olive, Ill., on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Jean was born on Dec. 11, 1940, in Litchfield to Melbourne and Mabel (Hunsinger) Bohlen. She married Ken Doty on Feb. 12, 1960, and they later divorced. She married Russell Miller on June 29, 1987, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1990.
