Letters to the Editor Policy

We always welcome - even encourage - letters to the editor. A community newspaper is dependant on interaction with the community and its residents. However, in order to be published, there are several rules that must be followed.

Rule #1 - It must be signed! A typewritten copy of your name doesn't qualify. Anyone can type your name. Only you can sign it. No letter - no matter what it contains, will be considered without your written signature. Also if your letter is postal mailed or e-mailed and not signed in our presence, please include your phone number for verification. This is for your protection as well as ours.

We will withhold your name if you request it in writing. However, there are some exceptions here. If your letter is in response to a signed letter (that is the name was published with the letter) then your letter must also be published with your name.

If you have submitted a letter for publication and it was not published, check the above to see why. If you still aren't sure, please feel free to call our office for clarification. (618-635-2000)

We are always happy to hear from our readers, either by letter or by phone. If you wish to inform us of a situation or just have a question, you are welcome to write and stipulate that the letter is not for publication. In that case, your anonymity would always be protected.
